Change and refinement in the air makes for an interesting time to be involved in parish Music and Liturgy, and this weekend gave food for thought to the participants from a knowledgeable source. Fr Allen Morris from the National Liturgy Office refrained from discussing Bishop Kieran's likely
initiatives in the light of the revision of the General Instruction on the Roman Missal, and concentrated on the many documents already extant from Pope John Paul and Pope Benedict on the subject of Liturgy. While pointing out some of the ways that these challenge us to better celebrate our Sacramental liturgies, and to develop non-Sacramental liturgies, he ably
fielded questions about matters that caused disagreement and disturbance among ordinary parish members.

The music, based largely round Michael Joncas' "No Greater Love" Mass, was led by Peter Olsen who, while retiring as leader of A&B Music Committee, showed that he has plenty still to give; we hope he will be back when he has tasted a bit of freedom. He was ably abetted by Sarah Adams, who had produced an excellent booklet of prayers and readings from her theological studies and life experience. With the usual gusto from participants it was a very prayerful weekend. It is a shame that there is not an opportunity for more of the diocese to share in it.
